A Small Dealer Mix-Up
Monday, July 12, 2010 2:22 PM by atom
Just a quick note: when I updated the Dealer Info pages for OshCon 2010, I left out a small piece of important information. The PRICE. It was just a glitch on my part, and didn't mean anything. Anyway, just to clarify: the dealer price per table is still the same as it was last year (and the year before, etc.) at $25 per table. If you're interested in being a dealer, we've still got some tables left, so sign up now, and sorry for the confusion!

2010 Event and Dealer Registration is Now Open!
Friday, May 28, 2010 1:57 PM by atom
The headline says it all: You can now register events through our handy-dandy web form. They don't get dropped into the database instantly (we manually go through them to check for spambots and such) but they usually get entered the same day. If you've run events at OshCon in the past, nothing has really changed this year, except that we should have more space, since we're expanding into the basement of the Gruenhagen Center. If you haven't been a gamemaster at OshCon before, feel free to email us at info@oshcon.org with any questions.

Also, dealer registration is open, so vendors should head to the Dealer Info page and sign up to get their booths. Any questions, hit the same email as above. We had 233 attendees last year, so there are plenty of people there ready to buy what you're selling. See you at the convention!

OshCon 2010 Announced
Friday, April 23, 2010 9:34 AM by atom
Even though the date was actually changed on the website a few months back and there have been some posters and flyers in some places since the end of February (most notably the Fire and Ice convention in Manitowoc), today we are officially announcing the date for OshCon 2010! Mark your calendars for October 9-10, 2010 and make sure you'll be at the Gruenhagen Conference Center on the UW-Oshkosh campus for all the games, demos, tournaments and dealers that will fit!

Speaking of space, this year we'll be expanding down into the basement as well, so we'll have more room for gaming tables. Therefore, we hope to expand some more into some tournaments in collectible card gaming and miniatures. Keep checking here for more information.

Lastly, we'll be opening up the schedule to new events (go here to see the big list of last year's events) and opening up vendor registration in mid-May, so check back then, and if you want to be alerted to all the happenings as related to OshCon, make sure to sign up with the mailing list over to the left.

2009 Photos and a Record Year
Monday, November 30, 2009 3:41 PM by atom
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Here's something I'm thankful for: the photos are (finally) up for OshCon 2009! 39 images of tabletop gaming goodness, shot by yours truly and Adam Bartlett of Heart Felt Wool (thanks, Adam). You can go gaze upon them right here or over on the left side of the page.

Looking back, this year's convention was our biggest ever. Recession be damned, we had a record 233 attendees over the two days and also more vendors than ever before. I'd like to thank all of our players, all of our vendors, all of our gamemasters and all of our staff for making OshCon 2009 a great event.

I'll be working with the university in the next month or so to plan for OshCon 2010, and you'll be able to hear about it here first, so stay tuned.

Event Schedule Coming to a Close
Monday, October 05, 2009 10:52 AM by atom
If you haven't entered your events for OshCon 2009, then you've only got a little time left! We will be closing event registration as of noon Central Time tomorrow, Tuesday October 6, so if you're still interested in being a GM, get your event in quickly!

Also, if you entered an event in the last few weeks, please take a look at the Schedule page to make sure it's on there. We were having a security issue with our web form and it was eating GM submissions from folks using some Norton and Trend Micro Internet security software, so just make sure it's on the list, and if it's not, please enter it again. The security block has been fixed so we won't have any issues in the future, yet it'll still keep the spammers out.

The new design for the OshCon 2009 official t-shirt is now up on the Merchandise page. Take a look and, if you're interested, make sure to get yours early during the convention. They'll be $12 and quantities are limited.

Lastly, don't forget to follow us on Facebook and on Twitter. As to the latter, we'll be posting pictures and captions all during OshCon this weekend so if you can't be there, you can still feel like you're there, sort of. And remember: if you're twittering from OshCon, remember to use the #oshcon hash tag so "tweeps can find your tweets!"

Only One Month Away! Event News and More!
Friday, September 11, 2009 3:53 PM by atom
There's only one month left until OshCon 2009, so if you're planning to run events at the convention, you'll want to get your events in quickly! Last year, we had 43 events on Saturday and 21 events on Sunday. As of this posting, we already have 40 events signed up for Saturday and 19 events signed up for Sunday, and there's still 30 days until the convention! So, if you have a specific time you'd like to run your event, get it in soon before the time slots start to fill up.

If you like your networking social (and who doesn't?) then you're in luck: you can now follow OshCon on Facebook and you can also follow OshCon on Twitter. Actually, we'll be posting photos of OshCon on Twitter during the convention so if you can't make it, you can still follow along as it happens. And if you're twittering from OshCon, remember to use the #oshcon hash tag so tweeps can find your tweets!

The 2009 PDF poster for OshCon is now available in the left column of the web site. Feel free to print it out and hang it around your cubicle, your dorm, your school or wallpaper your whole town with it. (Disclaimer: don't actually wallpaper your whole town. That'll take forever.) Click here to get it and use it.

Lastly, there'll be new t-shirts for OshCon 2009. The design's not finished yet, but it'll be posted here as soon as it's ready and the t-shirts will be available for purchase at the convention. Also, if you missed out on last year's t-shirt, there will still be some available at the convention this year, so make sure to grab yours right away.

Dealer Area Full; GMs: Get Events Entered Soon!
Wednesday, August 19, 2009 1:55 PM by atom
We are no longer taking dealer requests for OshCon 2009, as all the tables are full. You can check out all of the dealers we'll have this year at the Dealer Info page. If you are a dealer who didn't get in this year, but want to go on to a waiting list (in case a current dealer has to cancel) you can go to the Dealer Info page and send us an email.

Also, there's less than two months until the convention, so if you're considering running some games, hit the Be a Gamemaster page for more info and to enter your events. We take event submissions up until the Monday before OshCon, but if you want to run games in a certain time slot (we only have so many tables, you know) you should enter your events now! Also, the longer they're on the web site, the more they're seen by site users and the more people will know about what you're running, so get your events in today!

OshCon 2009 Trailer Video
Friday, July 17, 2009 9:31 PM by atom

In case you're getting ready for this year's OshCon and want to psych yourself up, or maybe you're thinking about coming this year and want to see what it's like, we now have an OshCon video to check out. If you were at OshCon 2008, you might see yourself. Famous!

Event Registration Open and Dealers Welcome
Friday, May 08, 2009 9:42 AM by atom
We opened both event registration and dealer registration this morning. If you'd like to run a game at OshCon 2009, make sure to hit the Be a Gamemaster page, read the terms and fill out the form. It'll send us an email and we'll then enter it into the event schedule database. Remember, if you run four or more hours of games, your badge is free.

Also, dealers can now sign up for tables. If you're a dealer and you're interested, hit the Dealer Info page and check it out.

2008 Photos and 2009 Date
Friday, January 23, 2009 11:07 AM by atom
It's been a little quiet around here, but I just wanted to let everyone know that the photos from our very successful OshCon 2008 are now available. Take a look over at the right column of the page for the link. It was a great convention, our biggest yet at 186 participants, and we had lots of vendors and events and even door prizes. Look for more of the same next year.

And speaking of next year (which is now actually this year) the date for OshCon 2009 is now official! October 10-11, 2009 at the Gruenhagen Conference Center on the UW-Oshkosh campus. We'll be opening up vendor registration in a few months and event registration after that, so keep an eye on the site and we'll see you in October.

Last Minute Notes and Official T-shirts!
Thursday, October 09, 2008 4:11 PM by atom
Just some quick notes before the convention: Your best bet for directions to OshCon 2008 would be the Directions page on the OshCon website. There you'll find the address for the facility (if you were going to put it into a GPS in your vehicle, perhaps) and a link to the facility with Google Maps. You'll also find a map showing where to enter the Gruenhagen Conference Center and which parking lots it's okay for you to park in. Parking in either Lot 6, 10, or 30 does not require a parking pass during the weekends. NOTE: Make sure to read about the bridge construction near campus and how that may impact your travel plans.

Also, we'll be selling limited edition Official OshCon t-shirts for the first time at this year's convention. They'll be only $12 and available from the Guardtroll Ts booth at OshCon. Take a look at the Merchandise page for more information and scope out the design. We'll see you there!

Less Than Two Weeks Away and Email Glitch
Monday, September 29, 2008 3:15 PM by atom
OshCon 2008 is less than two weeks away! Event slots are filling up fast so if you're a gamemaster wanting to run an event, make sure to hit the Be a Gamemaster page and enter your event or events. Remember, GMs only need to run four hours of games to qualify for a free Gamemaster badge. Sign up before the end of Monday, October 6th if you want your event to be in the printed program on-site.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The server company that hosts the OshCon site had a failure over the weekend, and it caused an email problem that blocked all incoming OshCon email. If you tried to email us or enter an event through the web site since Friday the 26th, please try again. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

Lastly, keep an eye on the OshCon site for the unveiling of our limited edition OshCon t-shirt design. It will only be available at the convention, but you'll be able to see it here first.

Only Three Weeks Left!
Monday, September 22, 2008 9:37 AM by atom
OshCon 2008 is only a mere three weeks away and events are still coming in. If you want to run an event and want to run it at a specific time, you'd better go to the Be a GM page soon and get your event entered before table slots at certain times fill up. And, if you want your event to be in the printed program, make sure you have it in by Monday, October 6th.

Also, if you'd like to help spread the good OshCon word, feel free to download the OshCon 2008 flyer PDF and print out a few for your neck of the woods. More gamers attending equals more fun!

OshCon 2008 Moves Across the Street
Tuesday, August 26, 2008 1:59 PM by atom
Some of you may have heard that there was a good deal of flooding in Oshkosh back in June. One of the buildings hit by this watery plague was the River Center where we hold OshCon on the UW-Oshkosh campus. The basement was flooded to within inches of the ceiling, from what I've heard. I've been working with the very helpful UW-O conference people to see if the building was going to be ready for our convention this October, and it's understandably been a bit of wait and see as things dried out.

We are now announcing that this year's OshCon will be held in the Gruenhagen Conference Center on the UW-Oshkosh campus. It's right across the street from the River Center, and those of you who have been to OshCon in the past and stayed in the dorm rooms there have actually been in the building: the Sleep for Cheap dorm is the Gruenhagen Conference Center. So this year, the lodging and gaming will be all in one building. If you play your cards right and only eat vending machine food, you won't have to go outside at all from Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon!

I'll post more soon, but everything is on track for OshCon 2008, and if you're interested in being a GM this year, make sure to enter your events soon.

All Dealer Tables for OshCon 2008 Sold Out
Sunday, April 20, 2008 9:55 AM by atom
The headline kind of says it all folks, all the dealer tables are spoken for. OshCon 2008 will have the most dealers we've ever had. There'll be some old favorites and many new ones, too. Hit the Dealer Info page to check them out.

And remember, it's not too soon to register some events that you'd like to run. GMs who run at least four hours of events get in free.

GM Signup and Dealer Signup Now Open
Thursday, March 20, 2008 9:10 AM by atom
Gamemasters looking to run games and dealers looking to sell their wares at OshCon 2008 can now sign up online. Dealers should be aware that they should sign up soon, as spaces are limited and they tend to go quickly. Gamemasters that sign up early will be more likely to get the times they would like for running their events. Also, the longer your event is available to be seen in the online schedule, the more likely that people will be interested in playing it. Sign up today!

OshCon 2008 Date Announced
Thursday, January 03, 2008 3:40 PM by atom
Once again, the official date for OshCon 2008 has been announced. Write it down: October 11-12, 2008 at the River Center at the University Wisconsin - Oshkosh. We'll have games, demos, tourneys, dealers and more. Also, you can sleep cheap if you stay in the Gruenhagen Center right across the street from the convention (room rates are $24 to $34 a night, more info can be found here). We'll be setting up the Be a GM forms and Dealer Info forms next week.

And remember, you can see the photos from OshCon 2007 on the Photos page. Just check the bottom of the left column on any page. Gaze upon them and despair!

An Excellent OshCon 2007 and Photos!
Friday, September 28, 2007 4:43 PM by atom
OshCon 2007 went great, with more events than ever before and more attendees than ever before. All told, we had 166 attendees at the convention. And we had zombies! Saturday night we had a Live Action Zombie Rally tourney, with real live zombies! The guys from Better Off Undead were our playing pieces, and Big Tony Byrne won it all, and received a Better Off Undead DVD and a copy of Zombie Rally. Not only that, but we've got photos of all the action (and the rest of the convention) in the Photos section. Thanks to all who attended and helped out, and we'll see you in 2008.

GM Sign-up is Now Closed; See You Saturday
Thursday, September 20, 2007 2:19 PM by atom
Take a look at all the events! There's something for nearly everyone at this year's OshCon. The schedule is now final and you can look through the list and plan the games you want to play. We hope you have a great time.

Last Few Hours of Event Sign-Up and Zombies!
Tuesday, September 18, 2007 3:18 PM by atom
There's very little time left to sign up to run events at this year's OshCon. If you register to run an event after Wednesday, September 19th at 12:01 a.m., we won't be able to guarantee that it'll make the official convention program packet. So get your events submitted! And speaking of events, here's two other notes: 1) we already have more events scheduled this year than any other OshCon before, so there's something starting every hour from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. There's always something to play. 2) This year, Snarling Badger Games will run Zombie Rally Saturday night. How is that different, you ask? This year, we're using real live (well undead, actually) zombies! The makers of the local indie horrow movie Better Off Undead are providing zombies from the movie to act as playing pieces in Live Action Zombie Rally (LAZR). Keep track of your limbs! Come see what all the fuss is about.

30 Days to Go; New Poster to Download
Thursday, August 23, 2007 12:16 AM by atom
There's now officially less than a month to OshCon 2007. If you're interested in running a game, now's the time to go to the Be A Gamemaster page and sign up so you get your preferred time slot. In my past experience, once there's only a month left, people start signing up and slots fill up quick.

Also, now you can help spread the word! Download the official OshCon 2007 PDF poster (over on the left side of the web page) and print it out. Post it at your local game store, or at work, or at school, or at your game club meeting: any place where like-minded gamers might see it. See you soon!

Less Than Two Months To Go; New Web Server Stable
Tuesday, August 07, 2007 10:19 AM by atom
We've got less than two months until OshCon 2007. If you're thinking about running an event, go to the Be a Gamemaster section and sign up now! It helps to get people interested in your game and it also allows you to get the times that you want. We only have so many tables, and they fill up fast as we get closer to the convention.

Also, we moved the web site hosting to a great local company (NTD) and left the useless, incompetent jerks (ExpertHost) that we used to be with, and now we're blessed with non-stop uptime and no excuses. I apologize for any problems caused by the web site downtime.

Several of us will be at GenCon this year running Silent Death and MetalKrushers for the Ottawa Red Shirts gaming group. If you're planning to be there, let me know and maybe we can meet up.

Coming soon: actual merchandise this year (and not just an empty merchandise section saying 'coming soon') and PDF flyers so you can help us out and advertise the con in your local area. Keep checking back.

Event Sign-ups and Server Problems
Wednesday, June 13, 2007 11:48 AM by atom
OshCon 2007 is still more than three months away, but events are starting to trickle in. That trickle will become a stream soon enough, so if you want to run some events, get them in now so you can secure your time slots.

Also, we've been having some server problems, so if the site's down, please email me and let me know. We're keeping an eye on it and if it keeps being a problem, we'll move to a different hosting company.

Also, dealers that would like to sell their wares at OshCon 2007 can now sign up. Head to the Dealer Info page and fill out the form. Tables move quickly, so sign up today.

If you're still waiting to enter the event you want to run, hop on it today!

Get Your Events In and Sleep for Cheap!
Saturday, August 26, 2006 4:31 PM by atom
There's only six weeks (as of today, Saturday, August 26th) left until OshCon 2006 at the River Center on the UW-Oshkosh campus. We're looking for this year to be the best year yet. If you're planning on running an event as a GM, you'll want to get your listings posted through the Be a Gamemaster page on the OshCon site as soon as possible, so you'll be sure to get your preferred time and day. Also, there are new rules for events that require more than two tables during a single time slot. Check the Be a Gamemaster page for more details.

Also, if you're thinking about coming to OshCon from far away but you don't want to spend a bunch of cash on a hotel room, come check out our Sleep for Cheap page at the site. You can rent a dorm room right across from the River Center for $22 - $32 per night! Inexpensive digs and the closest housing location to the convention. What more could you ask for? Well, if you do have any questions, feel free to email me!

The official date for OshCon 2006 has been announced. Mark your calendars for October 7-8, 2006 at the River Center at the University Wisconsin - Oshkosh. We'll have games, demos, tourneys, dealers and more. Also, you can sleep cheap if you stay in the Gruenhagen Center right across the street from the convention (room rates are $22 to $32 a night, more info coming soon). I'm working on new signs and shirt designs and now have the database set up for people to add new items to the schedule. More info will be coming soon, so check back later.

Thanks to Everyone; New Photos
Friday, October 28, 2005 3:01 PM by atom
I want to thank everyone for attending OshCon 2005! Our attendance was 158 this year which is pretty much on par with 2003 (there was no OshCon 2004) which is good. I believe that had we not had the last minute venue change and the constant rain, we would have had nearly 200 attendees. I want to specifically thanks all of our gamemasters and vendors, and our staff (thank you Eric and Shawn for all of your help) and the UW-O staff (thank you Marc, Carol, Debbie, Kristine and Dan) and my lovely wife Emily. Next year will be even better, and I'll be hoping to announce the date sometime around the beginning of the year. Lastly, check out the photos from this year's convention. See you next year!

Forced to Make Last Minute Venue Change!
Thursday, October 20, 2005 2:05 AM by atom
I received a phone call Wednesday morning from the Oshkosh Convention Centre informing me that our event had been "double-booked" and that we couldn't hold the event at the Convention Centre (unless we could move the starting time back to 3:30 p.m., which I felt was unacceptable). Three days before the convention is a hell of a time to make this discovery, and things were looking grim. But never fear, I've been hit with worse by better, and with the help of the president of the Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau, we have moved the event to the River Center on the UW-Oshkosh campus. I'll be posting new directions Thursday night, but please, tell everyone you know who might be interested in coming to OshCon about the change in venue and to check the web site for directions. One good thing to come of this is that players and dealers from far away who were planning on staying in an expensive hotel can stay in an inexpensive dorm room for $20 a night. Contact me for questions. Thank you to everyone who has helped and I hope this will be the best OshCon yet.

GMs are Running Out of Time!
Tuesday, October 18, 2005 12:37 PM by atom
Potential Gamemasters, you only have until 5 p.m. Thursday the 20th to sign up to run events at OshCon 2005. After that, we won't be able to to get you in the printed program that will be available at the convention, and we can't even guarantee that we'll have space for you to run your event, so make sure to submit your event on the Be a Gamemaster page today!

Welcome Raw Deal Tourney Fans
Monday, August 29, 2005 12:14 PM by atom
I'm glad to announce two huge Raw Deal CCG tournaments at OshCon 2005! Kevin Peters, the tourney coordinator is hoping to have 50-60 participants making this the biggest tourney OshCon has ever seen!

Also, there are only two more dealer tables available for OshCon 2005, so if you're thinking about being a dealer this year, then you'd better sign up on our Dealer Info page today.

Ramping Up
Monday, August 08, 2005 1:54 AM by atom
Things are starting to move with the the dealers section of OshCon 2005. Five of the 11 tables are already spoken for, so if you're a dealer interested in having a table (or a few tables) at OshCon 2005, you should check out the Dealer Info page soon. Also, make sure to sign up to be a Gamemaster, too.

It's Official!
Friday, July 22, 2005 5:10 PM by atom
I'm glad to announce that I met with the director of sales and signed the paperwork this morning, so there will be an OshCon 2005. We'll still be downtown, but now we'll be in the spacious Oshkosh Convention Centre along the banks of the Fox River, across the street from the Park Plaza Hotel. We'll have almost 2500 square feet to play with and concessions, too. So if you're interested in being a dealer or a gamemaster, go to those sections of the web site and sign up, and if you just want to play, keep an eye on the schedule page!

OshCon 2005 News!
Friday, July 15, 2005 4:19 PM by atom
Keep checking this space for news next week (week of July 18th) for an announcement about OshCon 2005! I just got off the phone with the sales executive for the new venue we hopefully will be moving into this year, so keep your calendar open for late October, and check back here next week.

OshCon 2004 No, OshCon 2005 Yes
Friday, January 07, 2005 2:04 PM by atom
As you may have suspected, there will be no OshCon 2004. To do that at this point would take a whole bunch of work and a time machine, and my time machine is in the shop, so that's right out. However, planning for OshCon 2005 is already in progress, and we hope to have a date by the end of February.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me and keep checking the site!

Keep the Faith, My Friends!
Thursday, September 30, 2004 11:05 AM by atom
I've been receiving emails from concerned gamers asking if there's going to be an OshCon this year. My plan is to still have one, but it might be in December. The Masonic Temple is up for sale, so we're not able to use it as a venue, so we're looking for something different. I've got a good lead and work has started, but I'm also getting married in late October, so I'm pretty busy with other stuff right now. However, keep an eye on this spot and there'll be more information soon.

Date and location for OshCon 2004 soon!

Hey everybody! We're working on getting the date for OshCon 2004 settled and you'll be seeing it here soon. Keep checking for details.

Another Great Convention!

I want to thank everyone who attended this year's convention and helped make it so successful. It was really a great time. I also want to thank every person who helped set up and clean up and everyone who ran games. The Oshkosh Northwestern ran a story about us on Sunday morning and you can read it it here. Lastly, if you have any suggestions to make next year better, please let me know here.

GM Registration Deadline
Tuesday, September 09, 2003 5:31 PM by atom
September 15th is the 'soft' deadline for GMs to register games that they'll be running. It's 'soft' because you'll still be able to register games after the 15th, and they'll be put in the database on the web site, but they won't appear in the printed program that will available at the convention. So get your events registered today!

Register to be a GM
Tuesday, August 26, 2003 1:03 PM by atom
Since everything is basically fixed with the web site now (the hosting and DNS switched over this past weekend) then everything is prepared for entering games into the database. You'll notice there's a bunch in there already, but the more games, the merrier! Remember, run four hours or more of games and you get in free.

And it's a New Web Site!
Thursday, August 21, 2003 9:26 PM by atom
It doesn't look much different, but the web site's programming is much different, which will make registering games and such much, much easier. Also, you can download a black and white OshCon flyer on the left and print them out and post them in your town. More soon.

Work Still Needs to be Done
Thursday, August 08, 2002 10:48 PM by atom
I'm glad you found us. The site still needs a bunch of work, but the design is pretty set, so at least we have that going for us. I'll keep adding things as they present themselves, but you may have to wait for some of them. OshCon is someting I've been wanting to do for a long time. It's taken a bunch of work to get to this point, and there's a bunch more to do. Things aren't set in stone yet, so don't get the date tattooed on you anywhere. The Masonic Temple isn't the confirmed location yet, but hopefully the board there will accept our offer and allow us to hold the convntion there. Keep an eye on this website to find out more, and if you need any more inforation, email me at info@oshcon.org and I'll get back to you.
